Here's an idea I can't stop thinking about, so I'm just going to build it in public and see what happens.
There's a camera going up, pointed at the sky above the actual garage where Progne prints everything. Not a photo I take and pick — a live feed, always running. At any given moment, someone can hit a button and claim exactly what's up there right then. That cloud, that light, that particular five minutes of Colorado sky that will never look exactly like that again. It gets printed, direct-to-garment, onto a shirt. One shirt. That moment, and only that moment, on fabric.
Why a sky, and why this way
I keep coming back to how much of what we buy now is the same thing a thousand other people also own. I wanted to make something that's structurally incapable of that — not "limited edition," actually, physically, one of one, because the sky an hour from now is a different sky. The name I keep landing on is SkyTee — still deciding on the final domain, but that's the shape of the idea regardless of what it ends up called.
The print side matters here too, not just the concept. A one-off photo isn't a screen-printing job — screens are built for printing the same image hundreds of times cheaply. This is a DTG (direct-to-garment) job, one shirt at a time, which is exactly the kind of thing Progne is actually set up to do.
Where this actually is right now
Fully honest: this is still very much in progress, not live. I'm sourcing the camera hardware now — the board I wanted was sold out everywhere, so I'm working around that. Once it's actually capturing photos reliably, the next piece is wiring that up to a real "claim this moment" flow on the site. I'd rather tell you it's in progress than pretend it's further along than it is.
